HISTORY AND CONSECRATION OF LODGE FELLOWSHIP NO. 140

In the city of Ahmedabad, there were two lodges both existing under the Scottish Constitution, viz, Lodge Salem No. 563 and Lodge Hope & Sincerity No. 634. As the city was expanding, some members evinced that there was great enthusiasm prevailing and they felt the necessity for a third Lodge so that the enthusiasm in the new entrants to the craft may not be jeopardised by not securing an accession to senior ranks in the craft. Just when this proposal was being considered, The Most Worshipful Grand Master of U.S.F.I.C. Most Wor. Bro. late Major Gen. H. H. Dr. Sir Syed Raza Ali Khan, the Nawab of Rampur, with the Grand Lodge office-bearers visited Ahmedabad for the Election Communication of Grand Lodge of United Scottish Freemasonary of India & Ceylon. While discussing with the senior members of both the Lodges, he saw for himself the prevailing enthusiasm in the members which he appreciated very much and wished that efforts be made to constitute a third Lodge under the Scottish Constitution and he further volunteered to be a founder member of the new Lodge. Thus a petition to form a new Lodge was made to Grand Lodge U.S.F.I.C., Bombay to grant a Chapter of Constitution for a proposed Lodge Fellowship at Ahmedabad. The Chapter was granted and the Lodge Fellowship no. 1565 S. C. was then duly consecrated by Rt. Wor. Bro. E.A. Nadirshah on Friday, the 4th March 1960.

Towards the end of 1960, a move was afoot in the country to form a Grand Lodge of India and as per procedure laid down for all Scottish Lodges in the country, this Lodge at its meeting held on 23rd May 1961, decided to opt for the Grand Lodge of India. Thus, after the usual preliminaries, this Lodge came under the banner of Grand Lodge of India as on 24th November 1961 and Lodge Fellowship No. 1565 S. C. turned into Lodge Fellowship No. 140 G.L.I.
